You know you are not the only person who has "found" paradise... but the sensation of what you see when you drive over the mountain pass is absolutely breathtaking. The beach is a wonderful place to spend a lazy day (once there - you don't want to leave). I would highly recommend!

Fantastic Island, the people are very friendly towards Brits. Did not like the resort of Lassie, it was a bit tacky. The rest of the resorts are fine. Many beaches are very smooth white pebbles, you will need rubber type beach shoes for getting into and out of the sea. Well worth the trouble as the sea is so warm & clear. If you hire a motor boat be very careful of the very choppy sea conditions in the afternoons, They change strength and direction without warning, usually around 1pm onwards. Also, be sure about the actual beach you are heading for. Some have shear drops over the edge of the roads leading to the beach itself.ie Myrtos. Antisamos.Great boat trips available to the island of Ithaka. Some parts of Kefalonia are not suitable for families with small children because of the pebbles on the beaches. The best resorts for sandy beaches are Skala.Xi.Lassi.Agastoli etc. Check brochures to be certain.

Having hired a car and travelled round most of the island last summer (2003,) I regard Murtos Beach as one of the most beautiful beaches to visit. If you don't have time to walk right down to the beach (it is quite a long, steep road,) then pull into a layby near the top to admire the most amazing colours of the sea. However, get there fairly early in the day if you want to be able to park your car at the bottom by the beach as there are limited parking spaces. Also, there is a small hut selling food and drink, however besides cans and icecreams it doesn't sell much else, so take plently to eat and drink as it's a long walk back up the hill and into town!

This is a very beautiful quiet spot. Maybe the most beautiful on the island, but the beach itself is a pebble beach and it makes getting in and out of the water a little tricky. The water however is the most amazing of all the beaches. It is as clear as glass and you can swim out for ages and still see the bottom perfectly. The setting is spectacular, but it's not a great place for playing in the sea.

This was the best beach we went to in Kefalonia. It was idyllic, blue seas, no litter and there weren't too many people on it too. I would definatley recommend a visit here.
